Just because this has been on my mind, I want to continue with my thoughts on my generation. Like I stated previously, we have witnessed many things. Technically some of them we were to young to recall, but still they had an impact on us. Things like the Oklahoma City bombing happened when we were so young, but it is sadly one of my first memories. Other things like the Columbine High School shooting are much more vivid, and hit much closer to home. Bill Clinton's scandals only showed us even more how you can't trust anyone, and how corrupt our lovely country can be. Obviously the most tragic and horrifying thing of our generation was 9/11. I remember everything about that day, and I know how terrified we all were. Witnessing and being there for that at such a young age made us constantly on edge and honestly fear for our lives everyday. The Iraq War that seems to be never ending has also touched us all, especially with the controversy of it. We all know someone who has been to Iraq now. Luckily, this war is not nearly as violent or lethal as previous but it still is happening and has an impact on all of us daily. On a brighter note, a very positive thing our generation has seen and truly helped with was the election of the first African-American president. I give major credit to our generation for this, because so many of us have moved beyond America's racist past. But along with this came a serious rise in hate groups and hate crimes against African-Americans. I guess every rose has its thorns though. Lastly, the state of our economy has been the biggest curse on our generation, especially for those of us on the verge of graduating college. Its nerve-racking and unfair to have struggled through 16 years of school and have a 50% chance of living back at home with your parents when you graduate.
There has been many other notable things our generation has undergone, witnessed, and experienced but I think the above are what have truly had the largest impact on all of us. Its a very scary world these days.
